Terrible Copy…

December 21, 2006

I am by no means an expect copywriter, but this copy caught my attention.  This is an ad on a local newsgroup from (I guess) a local business.  Am I the only one who feels that this copy is absolutely terrible?

Title: FS:Countertops

Body: Sick of your old countertop let us sell you a new one. Quotes on site. Call Frazer at xxx-xxxx

If I had to give this copy a try, I would write something like:

Imagine a new countertop that blends so nicely with your kitchen that you look forward to preparing your next meal.

Imagine friends and family visiting your home and have their breath taken away by the beauty of your new kitchen.

A new countertop can transform any kitchen.  A new look that will even impress your mother-in-law.

Call me today for a free in-home quote.  No obligation.

This was my first attempt at copy writing, and a very rough draft too.  So what do you think?  Did I do a better job?  I would certainly hope so because I don’t believe I would ever buy from frazer based on his ad.  There’s no reason too.

Love to hear your thoughts on it.

I’m alive…

December 20, 2006

Sorry I haven’t posted in the last few days.  I was getting over food poisoning and infection.  I spent majority of my day yesterday down to the emergency room connected to IVs.  I’m feeling much better today.

As for progress on making money online… No progress yet, but I haven’t really done anything to make progress.  I have a notepad with a few ideas down.  I know what I’m going to do and what niche markets I’m going to promote.  I haven’t found an affiliate program yet, but I’m not worried about that.

All is set to get started… Now I just need to find the time to actually start.  Hopefully over the next couple days, I’ll get the time free.  I’ll keep you posted.

Happy Holidays and best of success,

S. Cole

Affiliate Marketing Noob?

December 16, 2006

I highly recommend the 5 Star Affiliate Marketing Forum for anyone who is looking to start in affiliate marketing.

The folks there are really nice and more than willing to help get you started. It’s rare to find a place that you can find this type of help.

I hope I become a regular there and start giving back to the forum. I hope to you there too!

FTC and Word of Mouth Advertising

December 13, 2006

I light of some of the recent articles regarding the FTC and Word of Mouth Advertising, I thought I’d post this plugin for Wordpress.

Disclosure Policy Plugin 1.0
from Wordpress Plugins DB

Author: Andy Beard
Description: When initially conceived, this plugin was intended to aid bloggers with diverse business relationships to include some form of financial disclosure at the bottom of posts, and in their RSS feeds.

Since that initial conception, it has evolved into an application that has a multitude of uses in a business context, and it might even prove useful for more traditional personal bloggers who might occasionally mention their employer or want a way to automatically link through to related content.
Potential Usage

* Declaring a financial relationship
* Copyright statement
* Commercial email statements
* Legal disclaimers especially for legal or medical advice
* Links through to related content on your website
* Related content on a 3rd party website
* Advertising

Google Milk Carton 2% Click Fraud Mat Cutts posted today about the comments made by Andy Beal in his article “Exclusive: Google’s Click Fraud Rate is Less than 2%” and Shuman Ghosemajumder’s reponse to that article.

I’m too new to the Internet marketing scene to give an educated opinion on this, however I thought I would put the three posts together for others to read.

It’s an interested read with a lot of useful information. Enjoy!
