I made a promise.
February 10, 2007
My son is 2½ years old and I made him a promise today that I will succeed. I firmly believe that a lot of your success is about mindset. Before you can succeed in life you have to believe it, you have to live it, and you have to take action.
Most people just accept (what they believe is) their fate. They look at their current situation (debt, marriage, job) and dwell on how they will make it in the current situation. You have to look past your current situation and create an image in your mind of your ‘real’ life. The life you want to live. What is your ideal life? Is it to drive a fancy car and have lots of money? Is it to own your home and have more free time with family?
Whatever it is, you have to see that life in your head. Then you have to figure out how to achieve that lifestyle. Once you know what’s needed, you need to break it down into manageable chunks. If you want to make $100,000 a year, this is $1923 a week, $274 a day. What would you need to do to make $274 a day?
If you’re in affiliate marketing and you’re promoting a product that gives you a $20 commission, then you need to make 14 sales a day.
You now have to think about how to get those 14 sales a day. Do you need to create another site? Learn a new skill? Improve your sales letter? Write a better endorsement?
Think about it and start today to reach your goals and obtain that ideal life.
Are the Gurus’ holding back?
February 5, 2007
Are the Gurus’ holding back the good information? The real cutting edge marketing tactics that is making them the money? Are their product launches just a collection of processes and procedures that are on a downhill slide to uselessness?
Would the Gurus who I have come to trust betray that trust by selling me their soon-to-be out of date strategies?
That’s some of the questions that were raised in my mind after listening to an interview with Keith Baxter. Here’s a few quotes taken from the interview.
“… and trust me. In marketing almost everything you hear is disinformation. And there’s massive campaigns going on right now, I will not call them out, …, there’s a mass disinformation campaign happening right now in our marketplace…”
“… There’s reasons behind it happening and happening the way it does. I don’t want to sound like this is some strange big conspiracy, but you have to look at who profits from what and why would techniques would be released to the mass market if 1 it could be filters, or not as effective once it hits the mass media. There’s reasons behind everything…”
“… Sales letters in general are hype. Plain and Simple…. Ask yourself why is this being released to the public if it’s so darn effective now for them. Why wouldn’t they exploit it even further unless there’s something happening in that industry that may make it not as effective anymore…”
“… one of the greatest marketers of all time once said when the herd is going one way, go the other, and you’ll be rich… Let me tell you where the herd is right now, eBooks $97 bucks, membership sites $800 dollars a month for God knows what, courses $1000 for a bunch of crappy videos… Let me tell ya, we should be standing up and get really upset about this because the quality of the information we are getting is not there…”
The last quote, doesn’t it sound like he is referring to Gurus like John Reese which has his Reese Report and Traffic Secrets, or Frank Kern and the Underachiever and Ultra Underachiever courses and memberships? Maybe I’m wrong.
To be honest, I don’t agree with Keith. Not at all. I found John’s information to be very informative and useful. Plus majority of the “crappy” courses have a 100% money back guarantee.
Keith says we should stand up and get really upset over this. I don’t understand how he can make this statement. He says “$800 dollars a month for God knows what”. How can he say that we should get upset over the price without even knowing what we’re getting for the price. Yes, if I’m paying $800 a month and getting $10 worth of content then someone should stand up and say something, but if I’m getting information and strategies that’s increasing my bottom line and I’m seeing a positive ROI from what I’m learning from these membership sites, then the $800 is worth my investment. The price is not the factor. It’s all about the content.
I would pick John Reese’s Reese Report over Keith’s Stealth Traffic Secrets any day if John’s content is worth the extra cost. Even though John’s site is over 13 times more expensive. It doesn’t matter, it’s all about the content. As they say, content is king.
Rocket Your Learning
February 3, 2007
Trying to learn about Internet / Affiliate Marketing can be very tough. There’s so much information that it’s really overwhelming. Books are a must have, but there’s only so much you can absorb at a time. That’s why I love my mp3 player. I’ve learned so much more from listening to tele-seminars, podcasts, and other recordings from the top gurus that I’d be lost now without it.
No matter where I go or what I’m doing, I have my mp3 player on with something related to Internet / Affiliate Marketing, Outsourcing, Business, etc. Plus it’s much easier to learn about this stuff by listening to the gurus than trying to grasp it via a book. Don’t get me wrong, having the books are a must have. I believe that it’s best to use all your senses when trying to learn something new. That’s why I read the books, watch the videos, and listen to the recordings.
I don’t recommend a mp3 player with less than 1 Gig of memory. Originally I thought it wouldn’t matter. I figured that 256Megs would be plenty. Boy was I wrong. I have filled the 1 Gig player many times over. I couldn’t image having a 256Meg mp3 player now. One feature that I do recommend you look for is the ability to put the mp3 files into folders. I think this is really important because this allows me to keep the different seminars, podcasts, etc separate from one another. Well worth it.
Internet Marketing Tip – Learn, Learn & Learn!
February 2, 2007
It’s interesting that as you learn more, the more you seem to be in tune with others in this field. Over the last few months I’ve been studying anything and everything I can about Internet / Affiliate Marketing. Although I am starting to focus on specific strategies and processes, I am still learning as much as I can.
On January 25th, I posted that I answered yes to all 5 characteristics to making it big as an Affiliate Marketer. At the end of that post I said that I will succeed and ”It’s only a matter of time, education, experience, and luck”.
Just today, I was reading a very good post by Russell XU at “Web Marketing… Beyond the Basics” titled Easy Internet Marketing. The post is full of excellent information and I really recommend it for anyone starting off, but it was the following paragraph that caught my attention.
“…Being successful on the internet takes a special blend of many ingredients. These include time, education, experience, luck, and yes–money.
Every day, I see more and more potential internet marketeers who have obviously cut corners, rushing to market a product hastlily put together, poor marketing techniques, you name it….”
It’s amazing how my comment matches his comment word for word (except for money, that is!). I agree with him fully on the money aspect as well.
Unfortunately I don’t have any of my personal income to invest into my online success. Instead I have to take a different strategy when it comes to money. Instead of investing my personal income into my online activities I will be instead investing all income earned online back into my online activities. For example, right now I have a site that generates about $20US a month through Google Adsense. Previously I used to take this money and pay for my hosting and with anything left over I just wasted it on stuff. Now I’m going to reinvest this money.
I’m hoping to be able to generate at least a 150% ROI. Rosalind Gardner stated in a tele-seminar I recently listened to that she normally double, triple, or quadruple her investment. This means that for every dollar spent, she is getting two, three, or four dollars back. I’m not going to be that optimistic, instead my goal is to get at least 50 cents for every dollar spent. So I want to get $1.50 back for every $1.00 spent. Seems reasonable to me.
I can always go back and split test to improve this percentage and increase my overall ROI.
Anyway, it’s always nice to read posts like this. Especially posts that seem to be so in tune with your own thoughts and beliefs and help you stay on track. We’re on an Internet Marketing Road Trip and these posts are our street signs guiding us in the right direction. It’s too bad there wasn’t an Internet Marketing GPS available! lol
Wordtracker Keyword Suggestion Tool
February 1, 2007
The new keyword suggestion tool by Wordtracker is very similar to that of the Keyword selector tool by Overture. I’ve watched, read, and listened to countless material on Internet / affiliate marketing and Overture’s keyword selector tool has been the number one mentioned tool by everyone. It is used religiously by all gurus and an invaluable tool for researching a market. When I heard that Overture was going to discontinue this tool, I knew there was going to be a replacement. I’m glad to see that it was Wordtracker that developed it. Wordtracker is a must have tool for any online marketer. Although it’s not free, it’s well worth it’s cost.
To compare the two services, I created screen shots of each.
