As an Internet marketer, I’m a big fan of using pen names for the different markets I’m promoting. There’s a very legitimate and honest reason for doing so. Some people feel that using a pen name is dishonest, but I disagree.

If you look at it from your customer’s point of view. Just pretend for a minute that you’re a gardener looking for information on pruning flowers.  As someone who’s looking for information on pruning flowers, you jump on the computer and do a search for pruning flowers in Google.Â

The first result you find is a very nice squidoo lens all about prunning flowers. The article is so interesting and informative you just have to know what other articles this person has written. A few clicks later you’re on the profile page for this writer expecting to find other flower or gardening related articles.

To your surprise you find articles titled “10 Steps to Getting Rid of Male Yeast Infection”, “The Ultimate Guide to Underwater Kickboxing”, and “Speed Reading Tips for Ed ‘mankini’ Dale”.

Now what would be your first thought if you came across a writer who writes everything from pruning flowers to male yeast infection?

I know personally my trust level will suddenly drop and I would be more cautious. I would certainly think twice about any product or service that this writer had recommended. Nine chances out of 10, I would probably not buy the product they were recommending just because something seems fishy.

I would much rather just use pen names to keep each market separate. I would rather John to write articles on male yeast infection and Debra write articles on prunning flowers.

That’s just my opinion, what are you thoughts?

~Shannon

It’s been a while since I last logged into my Google Webmaster account and noticed a new link. The link invites website owners to report other sites that are using paid links so Google can “improve” their algorithmic detection of sites who are buying/selling paid links. I don’t know about you, but I think this is wrong. Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful, not to dictate on how the world should use the internet. Google is growing too fast. They have a monolopy in the search engine business and now expects everyone obey their requests.

This is the meat and bones of the page (rest of post after the jump):

Help us maintain the quality of Google search results.

We work hard to return the most relevant results for every search we conduct. To that end, we encourage site managers to make their content straightforward and easily understood by users and search engines alike. Unfortunately, not all websites have users’ best interests at heart. Some site owners attempt to “buy PageRank™” in the form of paid links to their sites. Buying links to improve PageRank violates our quality guidelines.

Google uses a number of methods to detect paid links, including algorithmic techniques. We also welcome information from our users. If you know of a site that buys or sells links, please tell us by filling out the fields below. We’ll investigate your submissions, and we’ll use your data to improve our algorithmic detection of paid links.

Report paid links

{form}
Website selling links: [text box]
Website buying links: [text box]
Additional details: [text box]
{end form}

We appreciate you taking the time to help us improve our service for your fellow users around the world. By helping us detect violations of our quality guidelines, you’re saving millions of people time, effort and energy.

What are your thoughts?

Ever since I started using Google Adsense I have been concerned with getting banned. As a infant in the internet marketing industry I am still learning to walk. I will have bumps and bruises along the way while I am testing various sites, copy, design, etcera to get the best results. I’m sure I will make a mistake or two during my development and learning. I just hope I don’t make Google upset with me and givem me a time out.

I’ve emailed Google and had them review my sites to make sure they are not in violation, however it is still a concern.

My biggest concern would be getting banned for things that are out of my control. Like I stated in my email to Google I would like to be notified if my account is triggering invalid clicks. If I’m being attacked by a bot or getting a lot of invalid clicks from a specific ip range, I want to be notified.

If Google would work with it’s publishers rather than just punishing them for things out of their control, we could work together to reduce the amount of click fraud. I hate spammers, fraud, and just bad behaviour as much as the advertisers. I have no desire or intention to knowily cause an advertiser any extra expense than necessary.

You should always take into consideration the number of advertisers using the Adwords network when doing niche research. That is if you’re planning on using Google’s Adsense to monetize the site. I’ve come across a few excellent keywords during my research that would have made for an excellent mini site, however due to no advertisers on the adwords network and no suitable affiliate programs they weren’t worth the time to create.

In order to find out how many advertisers are on the adwords network for your given keyword, I use Google’s Sponsored Links search.

Here’s a quick tip: Don’t rely on the total results when you first search. Click past the first page. More pages and more results will appear.

The grass is always greener on the other side and we rarely take the time to appreciate the things we already have in life. I have so many things that I’m grateful for that I take for granted. I’m longing for a better future, but I haven’t taken the time to be grateful for the things I have now.

So, once a week I’m going to list the good things that has happened to me during the week that I can show gratitude or give thanks for. I’m going to try and not post the obvious things like I’m grateful for having a roof over my head or that my car didn’t break down this week. I want to post about the new things in my life, no matter how small, that I should take note of and be thankful or grateful for.

My Gratitude Rock for this week (in no particular order):

Daughter had first top tooth.

Won $5.00 at work.

My Son said out of the blue that he loved me and hugged me.

Having the determination to continue my work.

I was a little disappointed in the review of the new marketplace at WP Text Ads by John Chow. I found his review to be a little short sighted.

John does make valid points about the current usefulness of the marketplace to advertisers. The marketplace only has a couple sites listed which are of little value to majority of advertisers, however this is not the point. I think the marketplace has real potential.

When Text Link Ads was first launched it didn’t start with this community of advertisers and publishers. Just like any site trying to grow online it started with it’s first user and grew from there.

Although I think WP Text Ads will have a very difficult time trying to compete with Text Links Ads, I do feel they have a market in this industry. They just have to find their niche.

Check out the new version of the WP Text Ads WordPress plugin available from my good friend Alex over at WPTextAds.com. With the release of this new version comes an integrated marketplace. Personally I’m really pleased with the marketplace because it allows advertisers to quickly and easily find potential sites to purchase links. It also includes at a glance all the main details that an advertiser will need when determining the best place to purchase links at the most reasonable price available.

One of the biggest benefits of using services such as text-link-ads.com over a standalone plugin such as WP Text Ads is their ability to bring advertisers and publishers together. I strongly believe that this marketplace has bridged that gap bringing WP Text Ads to a more level playing field. Especially when you consider the additional benefits of eliminating the middleman in lower cost of links for advertisers and higher profit for publishers.

So if you’re looking for an alternative to text-link-ads.com or just looking to manage your own text links, the WP Text Ads WordPress plugin is an excellent choice.

John Reese has the uncanny ability to summarize any business transaction into a simple to understand process. I have forgotten just how good of a teacher John is and how valuable his information is to online success.

For example John has summarized internet marketing success into one simple formula. Sure the formula appears complicated, but it’s actually quite simple. If you incorporate each of the individual portions of the formula into your site, you are bound to see an improvement.

The Reese Formula:

LG x P(x) x SEO x C(x) x CS x EM x ME x V V x TM x VS x B(x) = INTERNET MARKETING SUCCESS.

LG = Lead Generation
P(x) = Partners (to the power of the quality of the partner)
SEO = Search Engine Optimization
C(x) = Content (to the power of the quality and quantity of your content)
CS = Content Syndication
EM = Email Marketing
ME = Marketing Exposure
V V = Visitor Value
TM = Traffic Monetization
VS = Viral Systems
B(x) = Brand (to the power of the quality of your brand)

Check out the video, it’s well worth your time.

I know if I was working one-on-one with John in developing my internet business his help would be priceless. I know there must be a zillion things that I need to improve/change in order to increase my results, but that’s the problem. I know there are things I need to do to improve, if there wasn’t I would already be more successful, but what are those things?

How can I give John specific details about what I’m struggling with when I don’t know what it is that causing my problem. The biggest problem I face is traffic. I’m not getting the traffic necessary to increase profits. Despite my best efforts, my traffic remains on average the same. I’m only getting 3-10 clicks per day on advertising (all sites combined) which produces on average about $1 a day in income.

I’ve tried to harness the power of social networking, article writing, press releases, however I’ve seen little results. Maybe I’m not putting enough time/effort into this aspect and my results are reflecting my efforts. Maybe it’s the quality of my copy that causes the lack of interest. Maybe it’s the niches that I have chosen. Maybe it’s a combination of everything. Maybe it’s just me. Who knows exactly what is causing my lack of traffic and interest.

I know it’s not the site itself because I have created a wordpress package that’s perfect for internet marketing. It’s a unique combination of plugins and seo modifications that changes the basic wordpress install into a internet marketing powerhouse. It’s an awesome package that makes starting in the internet marketing world quick and easy. ~*<– hidden message *~

Either way whatever it is, I don’t know how to summarize it into one post on John’s site that I know that he can answer that will make a noticeable difference.
