John Chow vs. WP Text Ads.
July 20, 2007 · Print This Article
I was a little disappointed in the review of the new marketplace at WP Text Ads by John Chow. I found his review to be a little short sighted.
John does make valid points about the current usefulness of the marketplace to advertisers. The marketplace only has a couple sites listed which are of little value to majority of advertisers, however this is not the point. I think the marketplace has real potential.
When Text Link Ads was first launched it didn’t start with this community of advertisers and publishers. Just like any site trying to grow online it started with it’s first user and grew from there.
Although I think WP Text Ads will have a very difficult time trying to compete with Text Links Ads, I do feel they have a market in this industry. They just have to find their niche.

Hey Shannon.
Thanks for your encouragement.
When I created WP Text Ads, I wasn’t thinking of putting anyone out of business. You are right to say WP Text Ads will have a tough time in a competitive environment.
As I stated in John’s site, I’m spent about $200 on running WP Text Ads so far.
But WP Text Ads is exactly what you’ve mentioned - a niche, and a viable alternative.
Furthermore, it’s fun to run your own ads campaign
And I’m adding features all the time because I think they benefit advertisers and bloggers alike.
One thing I will never do is to put down in my Term of Use that if they use WP Text Ads, they cannot use other brokered-ads program. It’s unfair to users and advertisers.
I hope WP Text Ads and the Marketplace will continue to grow in baby steps. And one way to set WP Text Ads apart from other ads program is to give it its own API, which is something I’m working on right now.
That will give developers the freedom to express themselves using their ads data in anyway they like through their own plugins
Thanks!
